What is it about CZT?

Semiconductors can conduct electricity under certain conditions or circumstances, and therefore are commonly used in computer chips, diodes, transistors and other electronic appliances or devices.

 

Silicon, germanium and cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) are commonly used in radiation detectors. At Kromek, we focus on CZT. But why?

What does CZT have that other semiconductors don’t?

      The advantages of selecting CZT arise from several key features:

      1. No cooling is required for CZT to function at room temperature 
      2. CZT crystals have a small pixel size
      3. CZT functions via direct conversion, meaning it converts radiation directly into electricity

      Those three key features contribute to the versatility in use and the high quality imaging and spectral data CZT provides:
