Almost 22 years ago, Kromek were the first tenants in The North East Technology Park (NETPark): a fresh spin out from Durham University with only 3 in the company.
Prof Brian Tanner (Founding Chair) and the first 3 members of the Kromek team: Dr Arnab Basu (CEO), Dr Ben Cantwell (Innovation Director) and Dr John Mullins (Senior Staff Scientist)
First known as Durham Scientific Crystals, Kromek's initial objective was to commercialise the production of the semiconductor Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT), which still lies at the very core of everything we do.
Since then, Kromek has grown substantially and branched out into multiple applications in CBRN Detection and Advanced Imaging, now standing 200-strong with facilities in both the UK and US.
As Kromek has evolved, we’ve had the opportunity to work on so many exciting projects and collaborate with giants in the industry, such as NASA, EDF, NATO, European Commission Security Forces, DoD, Home Office, MOD, Homeland Security and DARPA.
We’re extremely proud of how far we’ve all come, grateful for the support we've received, and excited to see where we are headed in the future!
